about

Perc Trax label founder Perc and new talent Sawf battle it out on this split release which is completed with a remix from one of the breakout techno producers of recent times; DVS1.

First up is Sawf who graduates to his first Perc Trax vinyl release after 3 very successful digital EPs for the label and best-selling remixes of Perc, BCR Boys and Misc. Whilst Sawf's music resonates with both the influence of classic Birmingham and contemporary Berlin techno, his sound is all his own. Grinding, industrial-tinged beats topped off with droning string lines and cut-up vocals make up the Sawf sound and 'Slim' is his most accomplished track yet. Built upon a sub-laden broken beat pattern Sawf adds dense atmospherics to create one of the moodiest Perc Trax releases for months.

Next up is Perc, whose profile has continued to grow across 2010 with his pair of 'Vertigo' 12's on Perc Trax, Monad V on Stroboscopic Artefacts, a wealth of remixes. If that was not enough he has 12's for CLR and Stroboscopic dropping very soon. Always pushing to do something different 'Chromamoan' switches between 4/4 and broken beat patterns with a jabbing bassline doing the damage. Already tried and tested during Perc's live gigs across Europe this is Perc's last release on Perc Trax before he hides away for the winter to complete his debut album.

Finally man of the moment DVS1 delivers a remix of 'Slim', echoing slices of the original's fx over a rock-solid kick. Championed by Ben Klock and Derrick May via releases on Klockworks and Transmat, DVS1 is probably the most-hyped American producer right now and he deserves every bit of praise. This remix builds perfectly across it's duration and is up there with DVS1's most celebrated productions.
