about

'My Head Is Slowly Exploding' is the perfect snapshot of Perc's debut album 'Wicker & Steel', sitting halfway between dancefloor techno and raw, industrial-tinged experimentation. Launching the album campaign in style Perc pulls in remixes from two artists very close to his heart, German techno/industrial fusion scientists Ancient Methods and Throbbing Gristle and Chris & Cosey legend Chris Carter.

Perc's original mix sets the tone as the chest-punching percussion strikes that opened his recent live set at Berghain hit hard. The track builds with sub-heavy kick drums and glitching hi-hats being added to the mix. Sampled chords drift across the mix harking back to another of Perc's key influences, the early UK hardcore and drum & bass of a Guy Called Gerald and 4Hero.

Next come Berlin duo Ancient Methods, who in the last few years have set out their own sound and distanced themselves from any copyists thanks to releases on their own eponymous label plus well received collaborations with the likes of Regis and Adam X. After calling the original mix 'a masterpiece' they took months to craft their remix, twisting Perc's sounds into a trademark AM groove. The remix was the closing track of their recent London live set at Plex and is Ancient Methods at their very best.

Finally we have something truly special, a rare remix from one of the UK's pioneers of experimental music. As a quarter of Throbbing Gristle and half of Chris & Cosey, Chris Carter has been there since the first early rumblings of electronic music in the UK. Remixes from Chris Carter are very rare thing with only the white-hot Factory Floor receiving one recently. For his remix of 'My Head...' Chris launches snippets of the original mix’s percussion around the stereo field and creates subtle melodic lines out of Perc's sampled chords, forming a sound that is both classic and contemporary in its execution. It is a true honour to have Chris grace Perc Trax.
