about

** Early support from Blawan, AnD, Paul Woolford, Dave Clarke, Forward Strategy Group, Twitch, Cassegrain, Xhin, Tommy Four Seven, Terence Fixmer, Marcel Fengler, Dasha Rush and more **

Originally tucked away as the B2 on a various artists EP on Dont, Matt Whiteheads A Is For Acid has grown into a sleeper hit on the London techno scene, thanks to Truss and then Perc championing the track in their sets and Blawan playing it in his Boiler Room set from May last year. Now the track gets the full release it deserves on Perc Trax Ltd, a new Perc Trax sub-label dedicated to special projects, reissues and collaborations.

First up Perc takes the original mix and roughs it up distorting the acid lines, hihats and cymbals and sliding a layer of sub-bass under the kick. Closing the A-side Perc steps up again this time delivering a more radical interpretation. Wells twists the originals acid lines around one of his trademark metallic percussive grooves, inspired as much by the bumping grooves of early DJ Sneak and Paul Johnson as any of his techno contemporaries.

Ruling over the b-side in Avian / R&S star MPIA3 (aka Truss) who turns in a full cover version of A Is For Acid, using no samples of the original mix. Based around his trademark hellish kick, snaking synth lines and all manner of drops and breaks this rework demonstrates the MPIA3 sound at its most euphoric.
