During the last five years, Perc Trax has become one of the most respected UK techno labels, steering a course through the sea of knock off minimal and mediocre electro techno with their vision of true grass roots techno and electronica. Head Honcho Ali ‘Perc’ Wells has drawn further attention to his home grown imprint with his stellar recordings for Kompakt, Drumcode and Ovum but it’s his ear for quality and his natural A&R ability that has kept Perc Trax as a benchmark label amongst its peers.

When Ben Gibson’s demo arrived at the Perc Trax offices it was soon snapped up by Wells who saw the potential for the label’s first album release. Ben Gibson, for those who do not know, is no newcomer. He started recording in 2006 for Jeff Mills’ Axis offshoot 6277 after the techno legend took a personal interest in Gibson’s music, since then he has released on the uber cool Labyrnth imprint as well as Sweden’s Pohjola and Digital Distortion sub label Limetree.

Born in England but now residing in Japan, Gibson has distilled his musical and life experience to date into this his debut long player, entitled ‘In a Realized Luck of Immanence’. An enigmatic and somewhat existential title, it pretty well reflects the depth and charm of the recording, an engaging mix of dark tinged techno, spaced electronica and edgy dubstep. From the opening cut ‘Wirklichkeit’ it’s a record that grabs your attention for all the right reasons, the transition from track to track draws you deeper into a musical experience that leads you to reflect on the album as a whole rather than just the sum of its parts. As Gibson himself says “I wanted to reach a kind of minimal difference within and between every aspect of each track after an almost maximum amount of processing and editing – a consistent negation in order to create, a constant building in order to negate”. This is a producer who has really thought through the process he is involved in and belies passionately in the music he gives birth to.

There are tracks that are bound to find particular favour with individual listeners, be it the pulsing, warmth of ‘Vanish Between’ or the broken beat barrage of ‘Same Syptoms, Same Combat Scene 1’. There is no doubt that this album contains many gems but it’s as a whole that it really shines, a wonderful sequence of electronic delights morphed into a near perfect singularity.
